Microsoft’s Xbox Series X console, formerly known as Project Scarlett, has been officially unveiled at the Game Awards 2019.

Put simply, the Xbox Series X is Microsoft’s most powerful console yet, with four times the processing power of the Xbox One X.

It’ll be able to handle 4K and even 8K visuals, as well as resource-intensive features like ray tracing (in other words, lighting that behaves much like it would in the real world), and its speedy new SSD will virtually eliminate load times.

The Xbox Wireless controller that comes with it has had a redesign too, with a new Share button for sharing screenshots and gameplay clips. It’s even backwards compatible with both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

And speaking of backwards compatibility, you’ll essentially be able to pick up where you left off on your previous Xbox console, as all your Achievements and game saves will be carried over across devices. You’ll also be able to play games from across four generations of the Xbox, keep on using your Xbox One accessories, and continue using Xbox Game Pass too.

You can get an idea of just how stunning games on the Xbox Series X console are going to look by taking a peek at the new trailer for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, the sequel to the acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Check it out here:

The Xbox Series X is due to launch in Winter 2020, but there’s no more specific date just yet. If you want to keep on top of the latest news about Microsoft’s newest console, including the final release date once it’s announced, you can register your interest here.
