Whether you team up with a friend or you’re accompanied by an AI twin, your sister is your most important ally in the game. But it’s a dangerous world out there, and there are a whole host of dangers waiting for you. Increase your chances of getting out in one piece with these handy Wolfenstein: Youngblood survival tips.

1. Be nice to your sister

She’s your only ally for a lot of the time, so try not to fall out. You can show your twin your unwavering support for everything she does with a pep-signal (that’s a thumbs-up or a devil horns gesture), which will give her an instant health or armour boost. And if she’s feeling nice, she’ll give you one back.

You can also ping handy items lying around the environment to let your twin know there’s something there worth investigating. And since both sisters can pick up the same items, there’s no need for any sibling drama.

2. Work together with your twin

Many obstacles will be impossible to bypass alone (there are some that will require one twin to locate and read out a keycode while the other waits to open a door elsewhere, for instance, or there might be two levers to pull at the same time) and there are also item crates and boxes which will require four hands to open. You can also cover your twin from a safe spot as they venture into danger alone, man a turret to clear their path, or dive in to revive them should the worst happen.

You have a shared pool of lives, meaning that if you or your twin dies too many times, you’ll both get teleported back to the last checkpoint. Any extra lives you manage to find from picking up items will also be shared in the pool. You’re in this together, okay?

3. Stealth kills can earn you extra bonuses

According to a recent Metro interview with MachineGames’ senior gameplay designer Andreas Öjerfors, you’ll receive a stealth bonus if you manage to get through certain encounters without being spotted. This means that whether you play certain encounters stealthily, or go in with guns blazing and trigger a wave of extra enemies, you’ll still earn the same amount of experience.

But don’t assume that just because you’re being stealthy, your twin can’t be spotted.

4. Pick your battles carefully

Not all enemies can be taken out by stealth, so it’s worth figuring out which ones to prioritise when things get tough. Commandants can call in waves of backup soldiers if you don’t take them out immediately after being spotted, so if you focus on defeating them first, you’ll have fewer high-level enemies to shoot your way through.

Some enemies will be wrapped up in strong armour or carry nifty gadgets like cloaking devices, so communication with your twin is essential if you want to take them down efficiently.

Once you reach your safe headquarters in the Parisian Catacombs, you’ll be able to venture out on missions in any order you like. There are also plenty of daily and weekly challenges to complete.

5. Personalise your upgrades

You’ll pick up plenty of new skills along your journey, so focus on upgrading the ones that suit your fighting style best. Skill upgrades will let you hone your stealth skills to ninja-like perfection, with abilities like cloaking which will let you turn invisible for short periods of time. Or if you’re more of a smack-them-till-they-fall-over type, you can learn to smash doors into an enemy’s face, or use a hapless Nazi as a crash mat when you jump from a high place.

Remember that some enemies are susceptible to sneak attacks from behind, while others are too heavily armoured and will require a slightly more heavy-handed approach, so it can be useful to have a twin with different abilities to yours. Both twins also have some unique abilities by default: one has a limited stealth camouflage skill, while the other carries a unique shotgun.

Weapons can also be upgraded, so keep an eye out for items and weapon add-ons to give your favourite peashooters a bit of a tune-up.
