Far Cry 4

Weird ways to beat games - Pagan Min

Far Cry 4 begins with you sat at the dinner table of tyrannical king Pagan Min. He leaves and asks you to wait for him, at which point you’re supposed to run off to join a civil war, eventually dismantling his rule.

However, you can beat the game without doing any of that. If you wait for 15 minutes Min will come back and let you spread your mother’s ashes – which is what you came to his country to do. Now you’re pals, you both head off in a chopper to shoot some guns for a bit of fun before the end credits roll.

The Matrix: Path of Neo

We all know that Neo takes the red pill to wake up from the simulation and enter the real world in The Matrix. But in the game based on the film trilogy, when you get the choice between the red and blue pill, you can choose the option that Neo didn’t.

Pick the blue pill and Morpheus tells you he’s disappointed before sending you back to the level select screen. Who needs the real world anyway? Virtual worlds are much better.

The Stanley Parable

The Stanley Parable is a game about freewill and making choices. There are many secret endings to find but the Art ending is probably the oddest of them all. You need the patience of a saint to get it.

There’s a room where you are told to press a button to stop a baby crawling into a fire. After doing this for two hours, another button is added that you have to press to stop a puppy from being eaten by piranhas. Keep pressing both buttons for another two hours and you get the ending that apparently proves that games are art.

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium

You can finish Disco Elysium in three minutes by accidentally dying. The game starts as your character wakes up in a trashed hotel room with a horrific hangover and barely any clothes on. Spinning from the ceiling fan is a necktie.

If you try to grab the tie it’s possible to miss so catastrophically that you have a heart attack. This happens if you fail the dice roll don’t have enough points in your physical stats to have more than one health point. That’s not even the weirdest ending, though – it’s possible to nod your head to death later in the game.

Nier: Automata

Humans have abandoned the Earth and let robots take it over in this action-RPG set in the far future. You play as an android called 2B who is sent to Earth to kill the machines and clear the way for humans to return to their homeworld.

Being an android means 2B runs on electronics and machinery. The game allows you to customise her hardware by taking out and installing mods. But you can also take out her OS chip which instantly kills her. The game is over if you do this and you obtain the T ending.
