Seeing your interests collide is a unique thrill. Whether it’s George RR Martin working on Elden Ring, or Norman Reedus starring in Death Stranding, seeing talent from outside the games industry bring their creativity to the medium is always lovely to see. In anticipation of Hideo Kojima’s rumoured collaboration with horror mangaka Junji Ito, we got to thinking about our favourite video game collabs.
Death Stranding x Norman Reedus, various artists
Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is a pop-culture nut, so it’s no surprise that his 2019 epic was basically one massive collaboration project. The video game auteur drafted in a swathe of multimedia talent to work on the game, most notably actors Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and more. The game also featured a huge soundtrack, with original songs by Bring Me The Horizon, Chvrches, and more.
Kingdom Hearts III x Skrillex
Anyone who’s played the third main entry in the Kingdom Hearts series will remember the absolute bop that was the opening song ‘Face My Fears’. The epic dance track was a collaboration between Japanese popstar Utada (who performed the themes for both previous games) and EDM megastar Skrillex, who was a longtime Kingdom Hearts fan.
Fortnite x Avengers: Endgame
Fortnite has had so many amazing collabs and crossovers, we could fill a whole list with them. Our favourite has to be the Avengers event, which saw Thanos himself make an appearance in the game, along with heaps of items, weapons, cosmetics, and more from the movie series.
Minecraft x Halo
Minecraft is another live game that has had almost countless collaborations with other brands, but the creme of the crop has to be when Xbox’s most iconic hero, Master Chief appeared in pixelated form.
Nintendo x Universal Studios
While not strictly video games news, the currently in-production Super Nintendo World theme park definitely deserves a spot on this list. One ticket to Japan please!
