Anyone who’s been keeping an eye on Cyberpunk 2077 will likely have noticed that the breathtaking Keanu Reeves has a fairly major role in the game, providing both the face and voice of Johnny Silverhand (more on him in a minute). But he’s far from the first celebrity to make an appearance in a video game, and increasingly famous faces are lending their faces and motion capture to games as well as just their voices.
So following on from our last look at Hollywood stars in video games, here are a few more to feast your eyes on. Probably can’t meet ‘em in real life, but we can hang out with them for as long as we like in video games.
1. Keanu Reeves
See him in: Cyberpunk 2077
The surprise appearance of Keanu Reeves on stage during E3 2018 was one of the most memorable moments of the event. He’ll be playing the digital ghost of dead guitarist Johnny Silverhand, who seemingly lives inside the head of main character V. Developers CD Projekt Red have sadly confirmed that he won’t be one of the romance options, but if you can’t wait until 19 November to gaze adoringly at his face, he’s been in other awesome games too.
2. Forest Whitaker
See him in: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Reprising his role as Saw Gerrera from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Forest Whitaker provided both the digital appearance and voice of the character in Cal Kestis’ story too. And he’s not the only famous face to star in the game, either.
3. Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and more…
See them in: Death Stranding
Death Stranding is a veritable smorgasbord of celebrity cameos. It also looks just like real life, which is great while you’re trekking through glorious mountain scenery as Norman Reedus, and less good when you realise you broke his toenail by making him climb mountains without sensible shoes and now he’s going to make you look at it. Blegh.
4. Sean Bean
See him in: Hitman 2
Given his reputation for playing the character that gets killed off, it’s hardly surprising that Sean Bean’s cameo was as a target for assassination in Hitman 2. It’s a gloriously meta and tongue-in-cheek joke when you think about it. You could totally mess the Elusive Target mission up and let him escape with his life, but would you really be doing his character justice?
5. Jeff Goldblum
See him in: Call of Duty Black Ops 3
No dinosaurs in this game, but Jeff Goldblum still totally steals the show in his role as a failed magician in Zombies Mode. Gloriously eccentric and sporting a spectacular handlebar moustache (which, as facial hair goes, very nearly outshines the beards in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla), it’s hard to contemplate choosing to play as any of the other characters. Nah, they’re cool too, but come on. Jeff Goldblum.
