1. Red XIII

If there’s one thing we weren’t really expecting out of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, it’s the sheer volume of cats in the game. One of your very first sidequests involves searching for multiple lost cats, Wedge apparently lives in a cat shelter, the feline to human ratio in the slums seems to be extremely unbalanced, plus you get an approximate cat in your party in the form of a talking… um, well, we’re not quite sure what Red XIII is, exactly, but we’re going with cat. Four paws. Tail. Probably a cat.

2. Raymond

Raymond might be one of the newest cats to join the Animal Crossing villager roster, but he’s already one of the most popular. Is it his stylish glasses? His cute little paw mittens? His mismatched eyes? His teeny little fangs? We’ll never know. He’s just adorable in every way, and he’s never leaving our island. Ever.

3. Morgana

Features in: Persona 5

Contrary to popular belief, Morgana is not actually a cat – or so he’d have you believe. For all his insistence that he’s human, however, we’re not altogether convinced. Maybe it’s the ears? The long fluffy tail? The fact that he can turn into a van in Persona 5 Royal? Most of that sounds pretty cat-like to us.

4. Gigantamax Meowth

Regular Meowth is cool too, but we’re giving a special shoutout to Gigantamax Meowth simply for resembling an enormous draft excluder with razors on all four corners. Also, this one is a staggering 33 metres tall and has an incredible talent that involves earning you ridiculous sums of money when it gets in a fight. That’s a trick we’d like to teach our cat, actually.

5. Giant Cat of Darkroot Garden

Features in: Dark Souls

Another oversized cat, but this one’s got rather too many teeth and an unsettlingly wide mouth, like a Cheshire Cat. You know when your hitherto sweet and placid cat does that sudden wide-eyed pounce of inescapable doom on a toy mouse? Meeting Giant Cat is pretty much just like that, with you playing the role of the toy mouse. It won’t end well.
