Turns out there are a ton of amazing games getting TV and movie adaptations, from recent indies to some of the biggest names in gaming. How many of these will you be adding to your to-watch list?

1. Final Fantasy XIV series

Release date: TBC

We’ve seen Final Fantasy on the big screen before with the likes of Advent Children and Kingsglaive, but this time we’ll be getting a live action TV series set in Eorzea, the world of the hit online roleplaying game Final Fantasy XIV. Sony confirmed the project in June 2019, but there’s no word on a release date yet.

2. The Cuphead Show

Release date: TBC

This one’s utter perfection. Cuphead might be one of the hardest games we’ve come across, but the stunning hand-drawn animation and spectacular soundtrack left us crying out for more of brave little Cuphead’s hijinks. Look out for The Cuphead Show on Netflix sometime soon.

3. Little Nightmares TV series

Release date: TBC

This deliciously creepy indie left us desperate to dive back into this dark and oversized world, and with both a sequel on the way and a TV series on the cards, it’s like all our scariest dreams have come true.

4. Monster Hunter

Release date: 4 September 2020

A team of soldiers find themselves warped into another world, where vicious monsters are hunted by skilled professional warriors. They’ll have to team up to prevent the monsters from finding their way to our world in turn.

5. Minecraft: The Movie

Release date: 4 March 2022

It’s a long way off, but that just means more time to play Minecraft before the release date, and that’s always a plus. In the movie, a teenage girl teams up with a band of unlikely adventurers to take on the Ender Dragon and save the Overworld from destruction.

6. Uncharted movie

Release date: TBC

This one’s probably still quite a way off, as there’ve been more changes in director than Nathan Drake has one-liners, but with Spider-Man actor Tom Holland set to play a young Nate, we’re keeping everything crossed in the hopes that this project works out.

7. Resident Evil Netflix series

Release date: TBC

As if the stellar remake of Resident Evil 2 wasn’t enough, now we’re getting a Resident Evil 3 remake and a Resident Evil Netflix series too. The project was announced back in January 2019, but nothing official’s been revealed since.

8. Tomb Raider 2

Release date: 19 March 2021

Following on from the 2018 reboot is a new sequel, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. The first movie was based on the 2013 game reboot of Tomb Raider, but there’s no word yet on whether the sequel will continue to mirror the games or branch off into its own storyline.
