Can’t code or draw to save your life? That’s fine, you can still be a game developer.

Dreams on PlayStation 4 lets you create pretty much anything you can imagine – artworks, games, animations, and more – even if, like us, you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since you were in preschool. Seriously, whatever you want to do, there’s a tutorial for it.

And as well as being a creative sandbox for your imagination to run riot in, Dreams also has a fully-fledged story mode that shows off the very best of what the game can do, as well as a massive, ever-growing community of Dreamers who share, remix, and create things 24/7 in the game’s ongoing beta program.

So with Dreams on its way on 14 February 2020, let’s take a look at five things you might not know that you can do in Dreams as you embark on your journey to become a creative polymath… even if you struggle to draw stickmen in reality.

1. Build complete games from scratch

Draw from the Dreams community’s ever-growing library of free assets, modify them to your heart’s content, or create everything you need yourself from scratch. And when we say everything, we mean everything – game assets, animations, lighting, gameplay, and even soundtracks can all be created entirely within Dreams. Here’s what one talented Dreamer has managed to pull off…

2. Make the most delicious breakfast

Of course you can combine your love of breakfast with your love of art. If making a complete game seems a bit too much right off the bat, you could get started by playing around with Dreams’ suite of creative tools to make unique artworks. Check out the community creations for inspiration: you’ll find everything from lifelike 3D sculptures of delicious breakfasts to interactive experiences in the style of famous paintings, like this eye-popping rendition of Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

3. Become the next Spielberg

Ever dreamed of directing your very own movie? Add the spark of life to your artworks and creations by creating your very own animated movies, music videos, and interactive scenes, and if you’re feeling really creative, you can make all the music and sound effects in Dreams too…

4. Outperform Mozart and Beethoven

The video above is a live gig performed by a real-life band, using instruments created and played within Dreams. That’s right – they’re using nothing but controllers and Dreams to make that incredible sound.

5. Make sure everyone gets a happy ending

From the outset, Dreams’ creative community has been recreating familiar characters, objects, and even games inside Dreams. From faithful recreations of P.T. and Metal Gear Solid to detailed renditions of the Leviathan Axe from God of War, there’s no limit to what you can make. Some Dreamers are recreating games and then building brand new levels, so if you’ve got the time and dedication, then you could even create your own alternate ending to your favourite game where nobody dies and everyone’s happy.

There’s plenty more to discover in the full version of Dreams when it launches on 14 February 2020, so if you’re raring to start turning your dreams into a reality, head on over to GAME now to get your pre-order in.
