Fortnite is one of the biggest games in the world right now, with over 40 million people having downloaded the brilliant Battle Royale game. No wonder everyone is talking about the multiplayer sensation!
We’ve prepared this guide to help you understand everything you need to know about Fortnite, from getting the game to helping you get the most out of it.
How to get Fortnite
At the moment, Fortnite is out on loads of different platforms, including PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and even certain models of iPhone and iPad, To get it on PS4 or Xbox One, just head to their digital storefronts and search “Fortnite Battle Royale”, which will link you to the free version of the game. On PC, you need to head to here to download Fortnite. When it comes to your iPhone or iPad, it’s found with a simple search on the App Store.
What you’ll need to play
On PS4 and Xbox One, you’ll need to be subscribed to the console’s multiplayer service to play online. You can get PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live memberships here, which will let you jump into a game of Battle Royale in no time at all. If you’re playing on PC or mobile, you’ll just need a free Epic account!
V-bucks and Battle Pass
Fortnite is a free-to-play game, but you can get extra cosmetic goodies if you purchase V-Bucks! The in-game currency will give you the chance to buy different costumes for your character, or different designs for items like your glider or pick-axe. The personal touch is always the best.
Similarly, you can unlock even more costumes by picking up the Battle Pass. You’ll need to buy it in-game, but this will give you the chance to unlock new emotes, costumes, and earn extra V-Bucks!
Gaming headsets and controllers
Want to gain a competitive edge against other players? You can pick up gaming headsets that allow you to communicate clearly with your squad and will help you pick up which direction sounds are coming from. Handy if you have someone trying to sneak up on you!
Plus, there are plenty of controllers that are designed to improve your performance by allowing you to customise the button configurations. The Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 2 and the Xbox Elite controller are both great for gaining that extra advantage.
Fortnite is rated PEGI 12 in the UK, meaning it’s suitable for anyone over the age of 12. Thanks to its bright, Pixar-eque visuals and rewarding gameplay, Fortnite has proven incredibly popular with children, but you can always mute other players from the in-game menu if you don’t want your little one chatting strategy with strangers. Like any game, it’s always best to sit with your child while they play online!
With all this in mind, there shouldn’t be anything stopping you or your little one from getting the most out of this wonderful shooter!
