Naughty Dog’s next epic title finally has a date. During last night’s State of Play stream, PlayStation revealed the release date of their highly anticipated exclusive, The Last of Us Part II. The long-awaited sequel will arrive on 21 February 2020, worldwide.

The latest trailer not only revealed the release date but also gave us a clearer look at the story and gameplay of The Last of Us Part II.

This time, you’ll play as Ellie, who has found safety in a community of survivors, five years after the events of the first game. Ellie and new character Dina have a violent encounter with a rival group of survivors while out hunting for supplies, which sends Ellie on a harrowing quest for revenge.

Much to the delight of fans, grizzled dad and The Last of Us protagonist, Joel, has returned. While Joel had appeared in a previous trailer, it wasn’t clear whether we were looking at real Joel, or just Ellie’s memories of him. Things seem clearer now, with fans even hoping that we might get to play as everyone’s favourite Texan clicker-killer in the sequel.

Although we’re hoping for some more Joel-based action, Ellie has also clearly developed into a full-fledged killing machine in The Last of Us Part II. In the new trailer, we see Ellie taking on Infected and enemy survivors with a range of weapons and tools including her trademark bow, knives, axes and various firearms. Expect there to be a big focus on stealth this time around, as our hero takes on what looks to be a formidable army of hunters.
