One of the most satisfying things about a new Pokémon game is discovering all the new Pokémon scattered across the land, from common Bug-types in the forests to one-of-a-kind Legendaries in the remotest corners of the region.

In Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Galar region, humans and Pokémon often work together, so you can expect to come across them both within and outside the major cities. And with Galar’s new Wild Area containing plenty of Pokémon roaming the overworld, you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled as you search high and low – because while some Pokémon will be brave enough to let you approach, others will flee on sight.

So before you set off on your quest to fill up your Pokédex, let’s take a look at some of the brand new Pokémon that we know will be making their debut in Pokémon Sword and Shield!

Grookey

Type: Grass

This mischievous starter Pokémon carries a special twig imbued with mysterious powers. Capable of restoring wilted plants to full vitality just by banging this stick on the ground, agile little Grookey can also absorb sunlight and turn it into energy.

Sobble

Type: Water

Timid little starter Pokémon Sobble can turn itself almost completely invisible, blending in with the environment. Alternatively, if Sobble feels threatened, it will start to cry, which causes everyone around it to cry too. With the same tear-inducing qualities as 100 onions, Sobble’s tears are not something to be sniffed at.

Scorbunny

Type: Fire

The final starter Pokémon Scorbunny is so full of energy, its feet can actually burn enemies when it dishes out powerful kicks. This Pokémon also has a fire sac in its chest, much like a second heart, which it can use to boost its fiery abilities.

Gossifleur

Type: Grass

Light as a feather, Gossifleur drifts around on the breeze. Its pollen has healing properties and was traditionally used as a folk medicine for the people of the Galar region.

Eldegoss

Type: Grass

The evolved form of Gossifleur, Eldegoss is swathed in a thick fluffy layer of cotton. Its seeds are extremely nutritious.

Wooloo

Type: Normal

One of the first Sword and Shield Pokémon to be revealed, Wooloo captured the hearts of the internet almost as soon as it appeared. This round and extremely fluffy sheep Pokémon curls up into a ball and rolls away if it senses danger.

Corviknight

Type: Flying / Steel

Said to be the strongest Pokémon in the skies of Galar, you’ll often find Corviknight working in cities for the Galar Taxi firm, ferrying humans back and forth between destinations. They’re formidable foes in battle too, with some special Corviknight able to take on a colossal Gigantamax form in battle.

Drednaw

Type: Water / Rock

Only the most determined of Trainers can handle this Pokémon, but its armoured body and fierce jaws, capable of biting through metal and rock alike, make it a valuable addition to any Trainer’s party. Like Corviknight, some special Drednaws are capable of Gigantamaxing, so keep your eyes peeled for this powerful Pokémon!

Alcremie

Type: Fairy

Alcremie may look like the best option on a fancy dessert menu, but don’t be fooled by its sweet appearance. Able to sap the will to fight out of enemy Pokémon, Alcremie’s more than capable of handling itself in battle (and yep, some Alcremie can Gigantamax too). And as an added bonus, it’s also capable of making sweet patisserie cream which is prized by pastry chefs across Galar.

Yamper

Type: Electric

Like Wooloo, this corgi-like Pokémon quickly became the darling of the internet. Filled with boundless energy, this cute little Pokémon will run after the first Poké Ball you throw that misses and bring it back to you. Such a good pup.

Rolycoly

Type: Rock

This curious Pokémon drops coal wherever it rolls, but it can handle all sorts of tricky terrain. Its glowing red eye can also light up dark areas.

Duraludon

Type: Steel / Dragon

Watch out for this powerful Pokémon in the mountains of the Galar region, where it can often be found battling wild Tyrannitar. Its metal body may be strong, but it’s surprisingly light too.

Zacian

Type: Unknown

This agile Legendary Pokémon carries a sword in its mouth, but nothing more is known about its powers just yet.

Zamazenta

Type: Unknown

The regal Legendary Pokémon Zamazenta has a mane with a shield-like appearance, but like its counterpart Zacian, its powers remain a mystery for now.
