The newest Star Wars adventure, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is set to be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15 this year. If (like us) you’re beyond desperate to find out how this galactic odyssey is going to pan out, here’s everything we know about the game so far…
It’s made by the Apex Legends developers
You may know Respawn Entertainment already as the creators of hit battle royale game Apex Legends. Having also made the excellent multiplayer shooter Titanfall games, they’re the ones now tasked with bringing the much-loved Star Wars franchise to life once more in video game form, and we really, really like what we’ve seen so far in the trailer.
So much, in fact, that we’re just going to leave it here for you to see all over again…
It’s set in a very dangerous time period
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a single-player action adventure game set just after the events of Revenge of the Sith, in the aftermath of Order 66. And if your knowledge of the Star Wars universe is less than encyclopaedic, here’s a quick explainer: Order 66 was a secret order programmed by the bad guys into the brains of the Republic’s clone army, which resulted in the clones turning on their Jedi masters, and ultimately sparked off a galaxy-wide purge of the Jedi Order.
But of course, if all of them had died, there would be no story…
You get to live out your Jedi dreams (but quietly)
Young Padawan (or trainee Jedi) Cal Kestis somehow survives the slaughter of the Order,
and is now residing as quietly as he can on the planet Bracca. Imperial Purge Troopers are on the lookout for anyone suspected of having links to the Jedi Order, and Cal has to keep his head down if he wants to survive. Remember that first teaser image that said “Don’t stand out”?
Of course, Cal has incredible Force powers, and honestly we don’t think we could keep those a secret for long either. With the cat firmly out of the bag, Cal must flee the Imperial Purge Troopers and one of the game’s main antagonists, the Second Sister, an Imperial Inquisitor with powerful Force skills whose first appearance was actually in the Darth Vader comic series.
Embarking on a journey across familiar and unfamiliar parts of the galaxy, Cal, his droid, and a cantankerous pilot encounter other Jedi survivors also in hiding. Cal must also find a way to complete his interrupted training, with the ultimate aim of restoring the Jedi Order.
You get an adorable droid buddy
Star Wars wouldn’t be Star Wars without handy droid friends to get us out of trouble (and occasionally into it), and it looks as though Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is definitely delivering on that front. We’ve caught a couple of brief glimpses of Cal’s best droid buddy DB-1 in the trailer and some of the concept art, and it looks as though that little droid is going to be an indispensable tool for helping us scan mysterious markings scattered across the map. What could those markings mean? Are they hints to lead us to the next surviving Jedi?
Yes, there will be lightsabers
What could be better than lightsaber battles? Although it appears you’ll start out without any lightsaber at all, eventually you’ll get to combine your laser sword fighting skills with your nascent Force powers in combat, and it’ll be important to strategise carefully against your more formidable foes. Different abilities will be unlocked as you progress through the game, and intriguingly, it seems that even your lightsaber is going to somehow evolve along with you and your skills. Cal’s Force powers, meanwhile, will come in especially handy as he explores new planets and biomes.
