One of our favourite things about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is that we get our very own adorable droid buddy to follow us around and help us solve puzzles, and the more we see of BD-1, the more we appreciate just how adorable our new friend is.

According to a recent interview with Respawn Entertainment on Game Informer, the pint-sized BD-1 droid is based on a cross between Woodstock and Snoopy, from Charles Schulz’s famous cartoon strip Peanuts.

According to a recent interview with Respawn Entertainment on Game Informer, the pint-sized BD-1 droid is based on a cross between Woodstock and Snoopy, from Charles Schulz’s famous cartoon strip Peanuts.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game director Stig Asmussen said that BD-1 is “kind of a bird that tweets around, and is also loyal like a dog”. The droid’s antennas are apparently meant to mimic the ears of a perky pooch.

Respawn said that BD-1 took two years to develop in conjunction with Lucasfilm, and that in the Star Wars universe, the robot was manufactured to act as a companion for explorers – partly to scan environments and partly to be a constantly cheery chum, so you’ll never get sad or lonely with a BD-1 unit to hand. And if the E3 gameplay reveal is anything to go by, that’s not all BD-1 can do

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is due for release on 15 November 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
