Now the series is returning once again to its roots, and reintroducing us to the most terrifying Resident Evil villain yet.

To prepare us for the scares that lie in store when the game launches on 3 April, we sat down with the game’s producer, Peter Fabiano, to get the scoop on what to expect.

What kind of challenges are involved in remaking iconic games like Resident Evil 3?

Peter Fabiano: This upcoming release of Resident Evil 3 is a reimagining of the beloved original, built from the ground up on RE Engine, similar to the process for the recent Resident Evil 2. Fans have been very vocal in their desire for a new Resident Evil 3 experience, and this provided us with an opportunity to modernize a beloved fan favorite. This release of Resident Evil 3 stays true to the essence of the original game; however, it includes some updates such as high-quality graphics, modern gameplay mechanics and new surprises for even veteran players.

Were there any parts from the original Resident Evil 3 which were especially difficult to implement?

This is a reimagining, so we took a thorough approach to examining the original and deciding how to build it out if we were making the game today. Making sure the pacing feels right while making the game feel fresh and familiar is always a challenge.

Resident Evil 3 - Jill

Will there be any new surprises for people who’ve played the original game?

We don’t want to spoil anything, but players can expect to see a revamped narrative and a shift of how the order of events play out. The puzzles have also been modified somewhat so that there’s a heightened level of believability that such contraptions would exist in reality. Our goal with Resident Evil 3 is to preserve the spirit of the original game, but also deliver surprises and a fresh experience.

The Nemesis has become one of the most iconic baddies in horror games. Why do you think people find him so scary?

Well, just the fact that he is an imposing, hulking bioweapon makes him terrifying enough. Suffice it to say, he is relentless in his pursuit of Jill and a strong force to be reckoned with.

Resident Evil 3 - Gameplay

Has the role of the Nemesis changed at all?

He’s much more terrifying now! He’ll live up to his name of being an unrelenting monster pursuing their target.

What’s the one thing you’d like people to know about the Resident Evil 3 remake?

While it’s a reimagined version of the original survival horror classic, there are lots of new things to experience. Resident Evil 3 also comes with our take on 4v1 asymmetrical online survival horror, Resident Evil Resistance. There’s a ton of ways to play and enjoy.
