The most sure-fire way to score a Gigantamax Pokémon is by participating in a Max Raid Battle. Max Raid Battles will have you teaming up with friends (or NPCs if you’re playing offline), to take down Dynamaxed Pokémon. These battles will often yield Gigantamax Pokémon for you to catch – if you can.

Online events present another chance to catch a Gigantamax ‘mon. During the first week of the game’s launch Gigantamax Butterfrees will be appearing more frequently in Max Raid Battles, so get on it quick! There are also bonuses based on which version of the game you have. Players of Pokémon Sword will have an increased chance of coming across a Gigantamax Dreadnaw, while Shield players can expect to run into a Gigantamax Corviknight. Gigantamax events are likely to be a recurring feature, so check back regularly for more opportunities to expand your Gigantamax squad.

Finally, there are a few Gigantamax Pokémon you can get without much effort at all. Gigantamax Meowth is available to all players as an early purchase bonus. All you will need to do is choose the ‘Get via Internet’ option on the Mystery Gift menu to receive this chonky feline.

Gigantamax Pikachu and Eevee are unlocked by having save data from Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu or Let’s Go Eevee on your Nintendo Switch system. If you meet the criteria, head to the Wild Area station to redeem your hefty new pals.
