Pokémon Snap returns

Owners of the Nintendo 64 may remember the original Pokémon Snap from way back in 2000. It was a rail shooter game with a difference – the only shots you took were the photo kind, though you could hurl apples and pester balls at passing Pokémon if you wanted to.

From the trailer, it looks like you’ll be boarding a cute little hovercraft-y vehicle to travel around, meaning that the original rail shooter gameplay may well be back.

While details on the updated version are thin on the ground for the moment, we do know that hurling apples is still a thing, and there’ll be unknown islands to explore too, with a variety of biomes, like beaches and jungles. Also apparently the ocean, judging by that glorious cinematic shot in the trailer of a majestic Wailord breaching the waves. Your photos will be stored in your very own Pokémon Photodex to forever commemorate your talent for Pokémon photography.

The Isle of Armor launches today

In the meantime, The Isle of Armor, the first part of Pokémon Sword and Shield’s expansion pass, is also launching today. To celebrate, there’ll be a new Max Raid Battle against the Mythical Pokémon Zeraora to take on in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Assuming that one million Trainers manage to complete the challenge and defeat Zeraora, everyone will receive a shiny version of the Pokémon via Pokémon HOME.

If you’re yet to get your hands on the expansion pass, you can get it right now at GAME. You’ll get a code to redeem in the Nintendo eShop, where you’ll be prompted to specify which version of the game you own (Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield). Make sure you pick the right one, because it won’t work with the wrong version.

Just as there are differences between Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, there are some differences between the expansion pass for each version too. So be careful to choose the correct version to match the game you own.

The expansion pass contains both The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, though the latter part won’t be available until autumn 2020.
