PlayStation 5 Reveal Event: Everything You Need To Know

After months of teases, hints, and clues, Sony have officially revealed the PlayStation 5 in their Future of Gaming show – and more or less broke the internet in the process.

The event played host to some massive revelations, most obviously our first look at the machine itself, which sports a futuristic white and black aesthetic and comes in two models – one with a disc drive and the other an all-digital console.

While we were excited to finally see the console in the flesh, the games really stole the show. Here are all the major announcements and trailers from the big night.

Horizon Forbidden West

Guerrilla Games’ post-apocalyptic masterpiece Horizon Zero Dawn will finally get a sequel on the PlayStation 5. The gorgeous trailer saw Aloy exploring new lands, encountering new enemies, and even plundering the deep in some stunning underwater sections.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Get ready to don your Spidey Suit once again in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a standalone game following Peter Parker’s crime-fighting successor.

Demon’s Souls

FromSoftware’s epic roleplaying game Demon’s Souls returns to PlayStation in this stunning remake from PlayStation Studios and Bluepoint Games.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Every console launch needs a furry mascot and the PS5 has one of our favourites, the heroic Lombax, Ratchet. Ratchet is of course joined by his cheeky robot companion Clank, in another spacefaring platforming adventure.

Resident Evil Village

Okay, so during this part of the event we were hidden behind our sofa, but we understand that there will be an all-new chapter in the Resident Evil story coming to next-gen and apparently it’s set in a creepy European village. Eek!

Gran Turismo 7

There’s no better way to show-off your next-gen hardware than with some fast cars. Gran Turismo 7 looks to be another stunning addition to this long-running racing series, with groundbreaking visuals and unparalleled simulation driving.

Stray

In a world inhabited by robots, a hero will rise. And that hero is… a stray cat?!

GhostWire: Tokyo

Tokyo has the worst luck when it comes to fiction. If it’s not getting stomped by Godzilla or becoming a battleground for spiky-haired anime teens, it’s getting invaded by supernatural ghouls – such is the case with this spooky horror-action game from the creator of Resident Evil.

Deathloop

If you were a fan of Arkane Lyon’s critically acclaimed Dishonored series, you’re going to love this. This fascinating new property follows two assassins locked in a time loop where death is the only escape – a ‘Deathloop’ if you will.

Hitman 3

Speaking of assassins, Agent 47 will be back on PS5 to continue dealing out justice to society’s most corrupt villains. We can only imagine the possibilities of IO Interactive’s immersive sandboxes on next-gen tech.

Returnal

Returnal is a new property from Housemarque, the studio responsible for Resogun and Nex Mechina. This gorgeous game looks like Dark Souls meets Prometheus (which was a great movie, shut up), and we’re totally here for it.

Project Athia

This mysterious title is the latest from Square-Enix studio Luminous Productions. We don’t know much about Project Athia, other than that it’s being worked on by Rogue One writer Gary Whitta and it looks darn beautiful.

Pragmata

While Project Athia certainly piqued our curiosity, the strangest trailer of the show had to go to Pragmata, a brilliantly weird new property from Capcom.

And much more…

In addition to these headline titles, the Sony show also included a number of indie titles bringing some quirky flavour to proceedings. These announcements included Bugsnax, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Goodbye Volcano High, Destruction AllStars, Solar Ash, Jett: The Far Shore, and Little Devil Inside. We also got glimpses of Godfall, NBA 2K21, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Astro’s Playroom.
