A few lucky PS4 users will get the chance to play the upcoming Nioh 2 next week.
The news came alongside a brand new gameplay trailer for the yokai slaying action game. You can watch the new trailer below, and it’s just as gory and demon-filled as we’d hoped:
According to Team Ninja, a select group of PS4 users have been invited to participate in the closed alpha and offer their feedback. The closed alpha will run for just one week from 25 May to 2 June.
For now Team Ninja have no plans to extend it, and while there’s currently no way to request an invite to the alpha if you haven’t had one already, the fact that there’s an alpha at all suggests that we may be in for a repeat of the original Nioh’s playtesting schedule. With the first game, users who missed out on the alpha had a chance to participate in the later beta tests, so you can still keep your fingers crossed that you’ll get to try out the game before it releases in full.
The last time we heard about Nioh 2 was during E3 2018, when Sony unveiled a short teaser trailer. You can refresh your memory on that one right here:
While we don’t yet know much about the plot for Nioh 2, the new gameplay trailer shows a samurai struggling in battle against a series of fearsome yokai, only to seemingly sprout horns and turn into a yokai himself. Could the new game continue telling the story of Irish samurai William, or will it follow a brand new character?
Team Ninja have also said that there’ll be further information coming soon, so it’s well worth keeping an eye out in case you didn’t get into the alpha group this time.
