7 games we’re dying to see remastered for next-gen consoles

Next-gen remasters - Control
Next-gen remasters - Vanquish

We all love a good remaster. Higher resolutions, improved frame rates, and bonus content make revisiting our favourite games a joy, and with a new generation of consoles on the horizon, the possibilities for remasters is only getting greater. Recently, we’ve been revisiting two of the best action games of the last generation, Bayonetta and Vanquish, and it got us thinking of which games from the PS4 and Xbox One we would love to replay on a next-gen system.

Once you’ve swotted up on everything you need to know about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, read on for our wish list of games we want to replay on next-gen hardware.

Control

Control

Remedy Games’ unique supernatural action-adventure game is contained within a mysterious building called The Oldest House. As you explore, the architecture becomes a key part of the game mechanics, shifting around you to create a mind-bending spectacle. Control pushes current-gen consoles to their absolute limits, so we would love to see the game’s extraordinary visuals taken to the next level in a next-gen port.

Metro Exodus

Games to replay next-gen - Metro

In Metro Exodus, Russia has been ravaged by nuclear winter. Survivors have been forced to live underground, while intrepid explorers, like the game’s protagonist Artyom, venture out into the icy wastes to fight for a better tomorrow for humanity. Exodus boasts an extreme level of detail making it one of the best games to play in 4K. We would love to see how the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X would be able to render this jaw-dropping world in even greater detail.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man

This superhero adventure already looks spectacular running in 4K on PlayStation 4 Pro, but we would love to take another trip to New York City as our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man on the PS5.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Games to play next-gen - Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn was one of the first current-gen games to offer vibrant colours using HDR technology, which really brought out the beauty of its post-apocalyptic open world. With an improved frame rate, this adventure could look even more stunning on next-gen systems.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Games to replay next-gen - The Witcher 3

No matter how many times we play through The Witcher 3, we always leave wanting more. We certainly wouldn’t mind tossing another coin to our Witcher to play this modern classic on next-gen hardware, especially after the excellent Netflix series we just finished binging.

Gears 5

Games to play next-gen - Gears 5

Gears 5 was a huge game in every sense of the word. The campaign offers scope beyond anything the series had attempted yet, and the wealth of modes in multiplayer means that the game has almost endless replayability, whether you’re teaming up with friends or going it alone. We can’t wait to continue blasting the Swarm on Xbox Series X.

Bloodborne

Games to play next-gen - Bloodborne

Bloodborne is one of our all-time favourite Souls-like games, thanks in no small part to its brilliantly unnerving setting of Yarnham. We would love to return to the Hunter’s Dream on PlayStation 5 to scoop up those secret endings we never managed to get. Oh, and can we get a sequel too?
