First up we have a new operator. Fans of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 will surely feel a pang of nostalgia as they get reacquainted with Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley. Ghost was one of the main characters in the original Modern Warfare trilogy and quickly became a fan favourite when he suffered one of gaming’s greatest betrayals. Ghost enters the fight with a new finisher that lets you dispatch your enemies with ruthless efficiency.
The nostalgia trip continues with Season 2’s first map – Rust. This iconic Modern Warfare 2 map returns for both the 2v2 Gunfight and standard multiplayer modes. Also joining multiplayer is the Atlas Superstore map which lets you battle in the shopping aisles (just try to avoid the fallen shelving). For Ground War fans there is the new Zhokov Boneyard map, a sprawling aeroplane junkyard, filled with the shells of dilapidated vehicles.
The addition of two new guns – the Grau 5.56 and Striker 45 – rounds out the day one experience. And for those hankering for a more competitive Call of Duty experience – check out the new CDL playlist, a set of modes using pro rulesets.
Much like the season before it, you can expect plenty more content from Season 2 further down the line. Developers Infinity Ward have confirmed the roadmap for the season which includes two new maps – Khandor Hideout and Bazaar. Two more operators will be joining the fight as well – Talon and Mace.
New modes will be rolling out as the season continues, including the chaotic Infected Ground War, NVG Reinforce, and more to be confirmed. We’ll also be getting one more weapon, but its status is currently ‘classified’. We’ll have to wait and see what it turns out to be.
To get the most out of Modern Warfare Season 2 you’ll want to pick up the Season 2 Battle Pass which features another 100 tiers of rewards and bonuses, including weapon blueprints, operator skins, XP tokens, and more. The new Battle Pass will cost 1000 COD points to purchase, so if you’re running low, head over to GAME to top up your points. Your officer ranks, which are separate from your Battle Pass tiers, have also been reset – here’s a refresher if you’ve forgotten how Officer Ranks work.
Finally, the new season also introduces new ribbons, challenges, and missions for multiplayer and Special Ops modes. That’s everything you need to know about Modern Warfare Season 2! Looking for more Modern Warfare tips? Here’s how to unlock every killstreak in the game.
