In many ways Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a throwback to the older generations of CoD multiplayer, bringing back features such as killstreaks and eschewing Pick 10 in favour of the classic loadout system. However, when it comes to progression, 2019’s game is switching things up. The old Prestige system is gone, making way for a new Officer Rank system.

If you’re approaching the level cap of 55, you may be wondering what happens next. Well wonder no more, as we’re about to explain everything you need to know…

In previous Call of Duty titles, once you hit the level cap (which varies from game to game), you would be presented with the option to Prestige. This essentially meant giving up all your unlocks and starting again from rank 1, but with a shiny new emblem that tells other players how far you’ve come.

In Modern Warfare, however, you won’t have to worry about giving up any of your unlocks, as Prestige has been replaced with the Officer Rank system. Once you’ve reached the max base rank of 55 (known as Enlisted Rank) you can start working towards your 100 available officer ranks, earning you new emblems and other bonuses. Officer progression is reset each season – meaning that at the end of each season, all player levels will reset back to 55.

So, to recap, rank 55 is the base rank cap, but once you’ve exceeded this you will begin to earn officer ranks, which come with their own bonuses. When Season 1 begins on 3 December, all players over the rank cap will be reset back to 55 and start accruing ranks for Season 1’s Officer rank.

You will, of course, keep all of your unlocks earned in that season when the rank resets, so don’t worry about losing things! Think of it like a Battle Pass, but you won’t have to pay anything extra to get access to these rewards.
