So without further ado, let’s journey back to Middle-Earth once again for a sneak peek at The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

What we know about the game so far suggests that we’ll be relying a lot on stealth, which is a perfect fit for the slinkiest, sneakiest character in Middle-Earth. According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the game will focus on Gollum’s life prior to the events of The Lord of the Rings. It’s also based on the books rather than the movies.

So while we haven’t seen any nasty little hobbitses in the screenshots, we have seen plenty of heavily-armed orcs, some hairy spiders which are far too big for our liking, and dark and dangerous-looking underground environments stuffed full of traps and baddies.

However, from one of the artworks, it looks like we might get to explore some of the beauty of overground Middle-Earth as well.

If you’re familiar with the books or the movies, you’ll know that Gollum is constantly wrestling with two facets of his personality – the monstrous Gollum and the gentler (but still pretty creepy) Sméagol. From the screenshots and the Hollywood Reporter interview, it appears that we’ll also be dealing with both facets at once. It looks like we’ll be presented with the “Gollum choice” and the “Sméagol choice” and will have to decide which one to follow to progress.
