Bloober Team and Gun Media have announced horror sequel Layers of Fear 2 will be with us on 28 May on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
This follow-up will focus on a new story, with your character an actor with a mysterious past, lured to a seriously haunted ship for a part written just for you. Like any good horror game though, all is not what it seems…
The horror sequel was first announced in a terrifying teaser last October, which shows off the old-school cruise liner where the game takes place, as the camera moves across an empty deck.
Later on, we also get a glimpse of a body crawling out of something, while a narrator ominously intones “Before the world told you what you should be, do you remember who you were?” That voice belongs to Tony Todd, who horror fans will know as legendary horror character Candyman.
It’s all pleasingly eerie, and we’d expect nothing less from Bloober Team, whose original Layers of Fear quickly became a cult classic, with the Switch version earning an 80 Metacritic score.
While the original game was themed around the world of art, this sequel seems to focus on the trappings of early cinema instead.
From the sound of a clapperboard at the end of the trailer, to one shot clearly showing a screening room, there a numerous references to the early days of film. Even the working title, Project Méliès, appears to be a nod to French film director (and marvellous moustache-haver) Georges Méliès.
