Anime tag team fighting game Jump Force bursts onto consoles today, bringing with it an all-star lineup of some of Shonen Jump magazine’s most beloved manga heroes. And with 51 playable characters to choose from (including the DLC additions), it’s a battle between good and evil on a pretty darn epic scale.
But if you’re not well acquainted with these anime adventurers, it can be tricky to know who to play as first. And we’d love to introduce you to all 51 characters… but we’re being strict with ourselves and sticking to just 8 of the most iconic heroes in the game. And believe us, it was really tough deciding who made it onto the list. But anyway, who should you leap into battle with first?
1. Ichigo Kurosaki – Bleach
Orange-haired powerhouse and reluctant hero Ichigo Kurosaki obtained his Soul Reaper powers completely by accident, but kudos to him for going on to develop them through a whole lot of hard work. Now armed with a huge zanpakuto blade and more fearsome powers than we’ve got space to name, he’s definitely one of the more formidable opponents to face.
2. Gon Freecss – Hunter x Hunter
Though he’s got a bit of a temper about him, Gon’s also got the Ja Jan Ken ability (based on the game of rock, paper, scissors but a lot more dangerous) and is definitely a force to be reckoned with. His great strength and incredible recuperating abilities make Gon a solid choice.
3. Jotaro Kujo – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
The third hero of the series, this particular member of the Joestar family is a kind-hearted delinquent armed with a powerful Stand ability that gives him great speed, power, and precision in battles. Oh, and he also gets to stop time, which is sure to come in handy.
4. Son Goku – Dragon Ball
The hero of the Dragon Ball series, Son Goku is a kind, carefree, and superhumanly strong individual, notable for his martial arts skills and his ability to shoot powerful energy blasts from his hands. Despite not being human himself, Goku is a staunch defender of Earth and its inhabitants.
5. Monkey D. Luffy – One Piece
Indomitably cheerful pirate Monkey D. Luffy is known for having a body with the properties of rubber after accidentally eating a supernatural fruit (yes, really). He doesn’t pull any of his elasticated punches though, so he’s definitely a fun and powerful choice to play.
6. Naruto Uzumaki – Naruto
Despite starting out as a lonely and immature prankster, optimistic ninja Naruto Uzumaki really worked his way up to the top. Armed with his signature shadow clones, high-speed Rasengan ability, and the power of the nine-tailed demon fox that’s sealed inside him, Naruto is a real force of nature.
7. Kenshin Himura – Rurouni Kenshin
Looks can be deceiving where Kenshin’s concerned – behind his gentle and slightly odd demeanour is a master swordsman once known as the “manslayer”. Even with the self-imposed handicap of his trademark reverse-blade sword, his legendary fighting skills make him an unstoppable force on the battlefield.
8. Yugi Muto / Yami Yugi – Yu-Gi-Oh!
While Yugi is an ordinary and rather weak human who loves games as much as we do, his big secret is that he’s capable of transforming into the ancient spirit called Yami Yugi. Fortunately, this alter-ego possesses an incredible ability to turn tricky situations to his advantage.
So there you have it – 8 of the most iconic characters on the Jump Force roster. And don’t forget, you can always create your own customisable character and jump into the fray yourself. Let us know on Twitter and Facebook who your favourite Shonen Jump hero is!
