Your main goal in Death Stranding is to deliver packages. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. The contents of the deliveries you’ll be shepherding are imperative to the survival of humanity, so naturally, there are plenty of malevolent beings that want to steal and destroy your precious cargo.

These devious beings are known as BTs and the game’s characters don’t hesitate in letting you know just how dangerous they are. But don’t get too worried, you can actually beat them fairly early on if you know how.

Death Stranding - BTs in the wild

All you’ll have to do to take down these otherworldly beasts is hurl a hemetic grenade at them. These explosives can be crafted at rest stops from Sam’s own blood (yes, you read that right), so make sure to create as many as you can and bring boxes of them with you wherever you go.

Your scanner will pick up BTs in any area you enter, so make sure to scan regularly. BTs will appear first as black clouds, so chuck a hemetic grenade at it and you can continue on your merry way.

Things get trickier if you are spotted by a BT and enter full-combat mode. The key here is not to panic. Try to get some distance from the BT and continue to toss your hemetic grenades, aiming for the whale that will leap into the sky as you fight. Take out that whale, and all the BTs in the area will disappear, albeit temporarily. You’ll also get a bundle of chiral crystals as a reward for beating the BT.

Once you’ve progressed a little further into the story, you will get an anti-BT handgun which fires blood bullets. Even later on, you will gain access to regular bullet-firing weapons, which are useless against the BTs on their own, but combined with hemetic grenades they can be lethal. Toss a hermetic grenade, then follow up with shots into the bloodsoaked area for the best results. You can use this technique to farm chiral crystals to your heart’s content. Happy hunting!
