And in amongst all the brand new gameplay reveals, exciting announcements, and sneak peeks shown off over the last few days, we couldn’t help but be delighted to see a few familiar faces making a return in there too.

So let’s get right to it, and take a look at 5 upcoming game sequels shown off at Gamescom 2019.

1. Little Nightmares 2

gamescom 2019 sequels little nightmares 2

Tonally somewhere in between Tim Burton and Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, the original Little Nightmares told the story of Six, a small child attempting to escape a ship populated by terrifying (and very, very big) monsters with a taste for human flesh. The sequel sees Six return after the first game’s cliffhanger ending, and this time there’s another child along for the ride. Mono and Six will have to work together to solve deadly puzzles and escape the clutches of equally monstrous enemies living in the world beyond The Maw.

2. Kerbal Space Program 2

Many space exploration games give you a ready-built rocket and set you loose in the galaxy from the get-go, but not so with Kerbal Space Program. Your long-suffering supply of Kerbals are back to sacrifice themselves in the name of science as you figure out how to build your spacefaring fleet from the ground up. And this time, you’ll be venturing out to find new stars and planets, building space colonies and interstellar spaceships, experimenting with new technology and – wait for it – exploring the depths of space with friends in multiplayer mode. So now you’ve got someone else to blame when your Kerbal floats irretrievably off into space…

3. Everspace 2

The first Everspace sees you embark on a voyage to the far end of the galaxy, with the minor caveat that every time you die (which happens a lot) you have to start back at the beginning with only your lingering shame and collected resources to keep you company. You’ll be able to build a better starship, though, and you’ll get further next time and find cooler stuff, and it’s a totally addictive cycle. Everspace 2 brings with it new ship designs, new places to explore, and totally awesome piloting manoeuvres for the adrenaline junkies among you. Look out for the sequel sometime in 2021.

4. Remothered: Broken Porcelain

As if the creepy corridors of cult classic Remothered: Tormented Fathers weren’t scary enough, this time you’ll be exploring the darkened halls of the equally spooky Ashmann Inn. There’s a deadly new mystery to solve and questions from the first game that still need answering, and you’ll need to think quickly to escape the attentions of the terrifying Stalkers. Should you run, hide, or sneak by? Choose carefully, or it could be the last choice you ever make.

5. Port Royale 4

In Port Royale 4, you play as a governor of a small backwater settlement, but that’s not enough for you. You’ll develop production lines and trade routes across the Caribbean, laugh in the face of dangerous sea storms, schmooze the viceroy, conquer rival cities, and help your settlement grow ever more famous (and rich, too). New to the series is the addition of turn-based naval battles, so you can practice your tactical brilliance and turn the tide of battle at the last moment.
