5 great games to play on the go

We love taking trips here at GAME, as it gives us new places to take our favourite games to! Whether it’s playing Pokémon on the long car journey down to the seaside, whiling away time in Fallout Shelter at the airport, or killing an afternoon with Mario on some scorching beach, here are 5 games that are perfect for your travels.

1. Pokémon Go

There’s no way we couldn’t have the mobile phenomenon on this list. Letting you become a trainer by capturing Pokémon in the real world, Pokémon Go also has different creatures to nab depending on where you are in the world. So make sure you have a spare battery pack with you, so you don’t miss out on any rare creatures. Oh, and did we mention it’s free to play?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The world of Hyrule is a gorgeous, massive world that is as visually striking as anywhere we’ve been. So why bother staring at some renaissance-era art when you could glide around Link’s breathtaking world? Couple that with an adventure that demands exploration and experimentation, and you’ve got a staggeringly good game to play on your travels.

3. Super Mario Odyssey

Mario’s latest adventure is a great travel companion, especially considering it follows Mario’s own trip away from the Mushroom Kingdom. He even manages to find a blisteringly sunny beach at one point! With over 999 stars to collect as well, you won’t need to worry about finishing it before you get home.

4. Fallout Shelter

Nothing says relaxing summer vacation than trying to manage the needs of a society living in a vault, which is exactly what Fallout Shelter asks of you. The mobile and Nintendo Switch game is great for playing on the go is that you can dip in and out as you please, collecting a few resources here and sending out a crew on a quest there without it becoming a time sink!

5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Think gaming on the go is a bit anti-social? Not when you’ve got the multiplayer mayhem of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! Thanks to the Nintendo Switch’s unique design, you could just slide off a Joy-Con and start a two-player race with whoever’s next to you. Parent, partner, or just a friendly travel buddy, Mario Kart is a great antidote for a long journey.
