If you’re a newbie to the world of massively multiplayer roleplaying games, we have some amazing news for you. One of the most critically acclaimed MMO games, Final Fantasy XIV, will soon be opening up tonnes of content for new players to enjoy free of charge!
Square-Enix have revealed that the upcoming patch, titled Reflections in Crystal, set to drop on 11 August will greatly expand the free trial version of Final Fantasy XIV. This will allow players to enjoy the entire base game (A Realm Reborn) and the first expansion, Heavensward completely free of charge. That means no up-front cost and no subscription fees.
Previously, the free trial allowed players to enjoy the base game and level up to level 35, but this level cap has now been raised to 60, allowing players to spend much more time in the reborn realm for free. If you complete both of these expansions, you can sign up for a subscription to Final Fantasy XIV and check out the further two expansions, Stormblood and Shadowbringers.
The game’s director, Naoki Yoshida, told PCGamer, “we’ve always compared this to a TV series; let’s have people watch season one for free and it might make it smoother for our players to transition into the later seasons as well.”
