Following up on reports from last December, 343 Industries have reassured fans that Halo: Infinite will ship with split-screen intact.

Many fans were saddened by the disappearance of split-screen play from Halo 5: Guardians, as despite the increasing prevalence of online multiplayer gaming, there’s something about couch co-op gaming that is pretty much irreplaceable. Many gamers fondly remember playing the first few titles in couch co-op or enjoying local multiplayer deathmatches, so it’s heartening to see the return of split-screen to the franchise.

In a recent interview, 343 Industries community manager Brian Jarrard said: “Like last year’s reveal trailer, this latest look at Halo Infinite is powered by our new Slipspace Engine – an engine built from the ground up to realize our incredibly ambitious aspirations for the future of the franchise. Which yes, also includes the long-awaited return of split-screen support to the series.”

Halo: Infinite is set for release in ‘Holiday 2020’, alongside the next-generation Xbox console, currently codenamed Project Scarlett.
