Nintendo’s E3 2019 showcase was jam-packed with amazing new reveals, from supersized Pokémon and a new Animal Crossing adventure right through to the ghostly green Gooigi and a Breath of the Wild sequel.

But in between the onslaught of release dates and fab new trailers, we also came to understand that Nintendo have superhuman powers. And seriously, they know us better than we know ourselves. So here are five things that we learned about the Kyoto-based company at this year’s E3.

1. Nintendo are prepared for every eventuality

On Wednesday, the power briefly went off at the LA Convention Center, plunging the whole of E3 into darkness and cutting off livestreams from the event. But Nintendo were prepared – their Treehouse Live stream immediately switched to a ‘standby’ card showing Error from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and promising the stream would be back up shortly.

2. Nintendo know we can’t resist dogs

The reveal of Yamper the electric-type Pokémon quickly sent Twitter into paroxysms of joy. The corgi-based doggy Pokémon is already cute enough from the front, but then it turns around to reveal a heart-shaped bum, which naturally sent social media over the edge. Yamper is almost too cute to handle.

3. Nintendo have weaponised cuteness

As if Yamper wasn’t enough, this E3 also gave us the Link’s Awakening amiibo, a tiny figure so cute that the box should come with some kind of warning. Just look at his little eyes! And his little nose! WANT.

4. Nintendo know we will never, ever stop loving the 3DS

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser confirmed that Nintendo will continue to support the 3DS, even though the company hasn’t announced any new games for the console at this year’s E3. Speaking with Time, Bowser said that the handheld was still selling well, and that “as long as there’s consumer demand for 3DS, we’ll continue to support it”.

5. Nintendo know the power of haircuts

The brief glimpse of a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at the end of Nintendo’s E3 Direct dropped jaws around the globe. But perhaps the thing that got people talking the most was Zelda’s new shortened hairdo. Social media was awash with fans showing their appreciation for her stylish new look.
