Two iconic Disney games are making a magical return this autumn in the Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King collection, and we could not be feeling more nostalgic.

And if you’re looking for games that are challenging, stuffed with nostalgia, and sprinkled with enough fairy dust to make you sneeze out sparkles, Disney’s lineup of classic platformers are a great place to start. Frankly, we’d love to see them all get a glorious new remaster just like The Lion King and Aladdin.

So while we wish upon a star for the complete set, we’ve taken a trip down memory lane to re-examine some of our favourite classic Disney games that we reckon deserve an equally magical remaster. Have we missed out any of your favourites?

1. Disney’s Lilo and Stitch

The Lilo and Stitch movie might have been heartbreaking (no really, go back and watch it again), but the Game Boy Advance game was a blast, even if it was surprisingly tough at times. As Lilo, you solved puzzles and dealt out a lot more damage than you’d expect from a simple whack to the head with a doll, while Stitch’s levels involved a glorious dash of blasting baddies, hijacking vehicles, and hurling heavy crates. Oh, and there were even levels where you could zoom through space firing lasers from your spaceship. What more could you want?

2. Disney’s Tarzan

Just like in the movie, you’ll start out as young Tarzan and learn the ropes (well, vines) as you struggle to find your place in your adoptive gorilla family, before growing up and utilising your almost superhuman strength to swing through the jungle, slide along tree branches, and outrun an elephant stampede. You even get to play as Jane fleeing a pack of baboons, or if that’s not dramatic enough for you, you can smash up the human campsite as Terk.

3. Alice in Wonderland

If you follow the White Rabbit down his rabbit hole (and why wouldn’t you), you’ll find yourself in a magical, colourful realm just as delightful as that of the 1951 movie. There’s a great mix of levels to keep things fresh, like that one where you shrink and fall into a bottle and have to navigate raging rapids (that’s in the movie too), and a ton of treasures to find scattered across the map. And as you might expect, you’ll change size multiple times throughout your adventure, which puts a neat little twist on platforming levels.

4. Toy Story

About as faithful to the original movie as it’s possible to be (and with two delightfully familiar tracks from the film soundtrack thrown in on the PC version), Toy Story sees you step into the snake-filled boots of Woody the cowboy and reluctantly team up with the delusional Buzz Lightyear as you both embark on an epic adventure to get home. By the time you’ve platformed through every inch of the outsized human world, raced to catch up with the moving van with the help of your old friend RC, and reunited with your beloved owner Andy once more, you’ll want to dig out all your old childhood toys and give them a hug.

5. Disney’s Hercules

You’ve got superhuman strength, but why merely punch people when you can attack them with lightning, fire, and sonic power attacks gifted to you directly by the gods? Take on familiar baddies from the movie in suitably epic fight scenes, and be sure to pick up every action figure of yourself that you come across. Also, there’s an appropriately-named Herculean difficulty mode. Not one for the faint of heart.

So there you have it – 5 classic Disney games that we think deserve to get a remaster. Have we missed out any of your favourites?
