What is the CTR: Nitro-Fueled Grand Prix?

The Grand Prix is made up of a plethora of themed seasonal content and challenges, which are available for free to anyone who owns the game.

Every new season will revolve around a brand new race track, with plenty of different challenges for you to pit your racing skills against. With tests of everything from technical driving skill to speed, you’ll find something to test your mettle with each new season. But be warned… they’ll get trickier the further into the Grand Prix you get.

You can earn rewards for competing

Every challenge you complete will earn you Nitro Points, and you’ll earn different rewards (like new characters, karts, skins, and more) as you fill up your Nitro Gauge. And if you’re keen to show the world just how legendary a racer you are, you can compete to rise up the global leaderboards to win special rewards.

You can also earn Wumpa Coins just by taking part in the Grand Prix, which will come in handy at the in-game Pit Stop shop. Every new season will see new additions coming to the shop, from brand new karts to a mountain of items for customising them.

What’s in the first season?

The first of the new seasons is called the Nitro Tour Grand Prix, and it’s due to begin on 3 July, just under two weeks after the game’s launch.

The special track for this season is called Twilight Tour, and it’s based on the Ancient Egypt and Arabian Town levels from Crash Bandicoot: Warped.

You can also earn special new characters: Tawna the Bandicoot can be unlocked with Nitro Points, and the rest of the Nitro Squad (that’s her friends Ami, Isabella, Megumi, and Liz) can be unlocked with Wumpa Coins. Plus there are special Motorsport skins for all of them too.

Keep your eyes peeled for a mountain of new items too, including “international-themed” items, new parts for your kart, and the reappearance of a familiar and much loved kart from Crash Team Tag Racing, Le Chaux.

What’s up next in the Grand Prix?

The roadmap shows that there’ll be some familiar faces making an appearance over the next two seasons. Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated character to join the Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled roster is Spyro the Dragon, who has an entire season named after him.

Before that, though, there’ll be the Back N. Time Grand Prix, featuring the new Prehistoric Playground race track. And as you might expect, there are plenty of dinosaurs. There’ll also be weekly, pro, and themed challenges to look out for, as well as a darling set of Baby Characters to unlock (and yes, Baby Crash is one of them).

Sometime after that, there’ll be the Spyro Grand Prix! We know that we’ll be able to race as the adorable purple dragon, but the rewards and challenges of his season are a mystery for now.

Tune in to the in-game CTR TV to find out what rooster commentators Chick and Stew (who you might remember from Crash Tag Team Racing) have to say about each Grand Prix season. And there are more to come…

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is out on 21 June, and you can grab your copy right here. Remember, the Grand Prix will begin from 3 July, so you’ve got plenty of time to get your racing skills up to speed before the challenges begin.
