Black Ops 4 Operation Absolute Zero adds new Specialist and map to Blackout

Black Ops 4 Operation Absolute Zero

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is getting its first major update with Operation Absolute Zero.

Headlining this update is hacker Zero, the game’s first post-launch Specialist. Zero’s skills lie in being able to disrupt and distract the enemy. One of the pieces of specialist equipment we see her use is the Disruptor grenade, which in a pre-release trailer released yesterday, shows how it can disable Torque’s barricade and a sentry gun. Looks like our days of hiding behind portable barriers are over…

On top of that, new weapons will be coming to Multiplayer, through the Black Market. These are the “Daemon 3XB SMG, SWAT RFT assault rifle, and Secret Santa melee weapon” according to the Treyarch blog. Tis the season of giving (your a mate a walloping with a brand new melee weapon) after all!

On top of that, Blackout is changing significantly with this update. For starters, the map is now a more autumnal brown on the south side, while the north is starting to look a lot more snowy, in a rather festive visual update. It’ll be easier to get between these new areas, thanks to the new ARAV armoured vehicles that will spawn on the island. These handy off-roaders have a machine gun turret, so you’ll be able to send some heavy fire back at anyone who tries to stop you.

Meanwhile, tweaks have been made to how you hear footsteps, making it clearer where other players on the map are. On top of that, an armour repair system has been added to the battle royale mode. Using destroyed armour plating you find on vanquished foes, you can patch up the armour you’re wearing. Handy if it has taken a few too many bullets.

But the biggest change in Blackout is the introduction of a cruise liner, based on the classic COD multiplayer map, Hijacked. If you’re brave enough to land on this huge ship in the northwest area of the map, expect some hectic firefights.

There’s even more coming in this content update. Zombies players will now be able to earn a Daily Tier Skip in the mode, provided they make it to round 15 in any of the zombie maps. Plus, Daily Callings are being added to the mode, which will grant players with bonus XP and Nebulium Plasma if they manage to complete certain tasks.

Think you’re up to the challenge? This sweeping update is launching later today on PS4, and coming to Xbox One and PC in the coming weeks.
