Video game characters very often come armed with a ton of amazing powers and abilities, and that’s not even counting their incredible core strength that lets them wave gigantic weapons around like they’re made of paper.

Whether it’s casting powerful magic spells, healing grievous wounds with a simple can of energy drink (that’s a thing in Final Fantasy XV, honest), or simply saying not today to the God of Death, there are a ton of these abilities that we reckon would be super handy in real life, if someone could only figure out how to teach them to us.

So here’s our take on some of the most useful skills out there. Which of these would you pick, if you could only choose one?

1. Levitate

Try it out in: Control

This one speaks for itself. Why walk up the stairs when you could float up there instead?

2. Return from the dead

Try it out in: Death Stranding

Yep, that one sounds pretty useful. If you really messed things up, you could simply swim back to your body in the scary underwater purgatory place and carry on from where you left off. Only better, this time.

3. Rewind time

Try it out in: Life is Strange

Said something awkward to the person you like? Spilled tea all over your keyboard? Accidentally deleted your uni dissertation and all its backups? With this ability, you could just smile, take a step back in time, and it never happened. Hang the consequences.

4. Eagle Vision

Imagine being able to look at the world and see treasures, friends, and enemies all lit up. You’d never lose your friends in a crowd again, and chances are you’d never lose your glasses again either. Possibly the most practical skill on the list.

5. Warp through the air

Try it out in: Final Fantasy XV

Now you see me, now you don’t. How much faster would your commute be if you could just warp between buildings?

6. Wall Run

You know when you’re in a major hurry but the pavement’s full of people and you can’t get by? This is exactly what this ability was made for.

7. Animal Allegiance

Try it out in: Skyrim

The Dragonborn picks up a lot of handy abilities. We were very tempted by the Transmute spell (turn your pocket junk into free gold) and the Magelight spell (no more flapping around in the dark for the light switch), but we’ve opted for the Animal Allegiance Shout instead. No cat would ever ignore you again.
