The best viking beards from the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla trailer, ranked

best beards ranked assassins creed valhalla viking eivor

What was the main thing you took away from the incredible reveal trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla? Vikings, cool. Hidden blade, awesome. Longships and axes and Odin… all excellent stuff. And while there are plenty of details squirrelled away in the trailer, there’s one thing you probably didn’t notice even though it’s clearly the stand-out star of the show.

That’s right: all that facial hair.

Seriously, those beards are something else. So we decided to rank them in order of stylishness, because this is very important and we also have to find a way to fill our time until we can get our mitts on the amazing mountain of next-gen games that’s piling up so tantalisingly in the near future.

Honestly, we haven’t had this much fun looking at immaculately-styled beards since we played the Lego version of The Hobbit.

5. King Aelfred’s beard

Style rating: ★

On its own, we have no real issue with King Aelfred’s beard. As beards go it’s fine. But compared to some of the luxuriant beasts we’ve seen on the Viking side, it’s hard to rank this one near the top. We’re getting slight Lord Farquaad vibes, too.

4. Aelfred’s follower’s beard

Style rating: ★★

Again, we’re not saying this is a bad beard, it’s just hard to compare it to the Viking offerings. We’re ranking it higher than Aelfred’s kingly locks simply because of the bold choice to pair it up with a cute little bob cut.

3. Eivor’s beard

Style rating: ★★★

The hero’s single-plait beard is functional but still stylish, but we’re weak at the knees for the matching single side-braid that gives the whole ensemble a fabulously asymmetrical (and oh-so-modern) appeal.

2. The moustache and beard combo

Style rating: ★★★★

Where do we start with this one on the right? We love the little sprinkle of silver, but what knocks this one out of the park is that spectacular handlebar moustache. And that’s a man-bun that anyone could be proud of.

1. This statue’s beard

Style rating: ★★★★★

A controversial choice for the top spot, we know, because it’s not technically a real beard. However, we’re extremely impressed by the twin plait thing that’s going on here. Perhaps after Assassin’s Creed Valhalla arrives, this’ll become the go-to style for modern-day beards.

Look out for all these lovely beards and plenty more when Assassin’s Creed Valhalla arrives in Holiday 2020. You’ll be able to play on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, or dive into next-gen gaming by experiencing life as a Viking on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
