Animal Crossing: New Horizons is almost here and everyone’s favourite anthropomorphic landlord Tom Nook has been hard at work developing new technology to make your stay more enjoyable than ever before. Nook’s latest innovation is the new NookLink system – a feature that bridges the gap between your Nintendo Switch Online App and the game. We always knew that raccoon was smart.

Every visitor to Animal Crossing: New Horizons will get their own NookPhone, a totally original device invented by Tom Nook which definitely bears no resemblance to any pre-existing product.

With the NookPhone you can access a number of useful features including the camera, maps, recipes, and even host a local co-op session. The NookPhone is not to be confused with NookLink, a feature coming to the Nintendo Switch Online App, that allows you to perform a number of useful tasks from your smartphone or tablet.

For longtime Animal Crossing fans, one of the most useful features of the NookLink is that you can bring your custom designs from Animal Crossing: New Leaf or Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer to New Horizons using the app.

Simply download the Nintendo Switch Online App and sign in to your Nintendo account to get started. Head to the NookLink feature and select Custom Designs. Now you will need to dig out your Nintendo 3DS and fire up New Leaf or Happy Home Designer. Use the NookLink feature to scan the QR codes for your custom designs, and they will appear in New Horizons through the magic of Tanuki technology! It’s so simple, a racoon could do it.

NookLink will also allow you to message or voice chat with other players and will likely have more features added after the game’s launch. NookLink will roll out shortly after Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ launch on 20 March, but you can download the Nintendo Switch Online App and get signed in ready today.
